King combo stone, 800/6000 The same as 1000/6000?

Sat May 31, 2014 12:13 pm

I'm in the market for a King combo stone as it fits the budget. However I came across two different types, 800/1000 & 1000/6000. Are these both the same stones, are is one a newer generation model?
Which of the two do you think is the preferred consensus?

Thank you in advance for any insight.

First, I'll assume your thread title is correct and you're looking at the 800/6000 and 1000/6000. Your post says 800/1000?!?! I'll assume that's a typo.

No, they're not the same stone.

If you have no intentions of getting any other sharpening device, get the 800/6000 combo. It's a little coarser and thus will remove metal a little faster and with the 6000, you can still refine the edge very well.
