Understandable but small knifes are not the correct shape for prepping vegetables. I mean, sure you can use a pairing knife, but would you really use this to prep onions and carrots? Plus, its likely that the handle will still be awkward for small hands. Having just gone through this decision, I still sticking to my Kyocera choice. Still think that six is a young age to put a 11 degree screaming edge in a child's hands. maybe I'm wrong. Reminds me

Did you guys ever see the video on the knife throwing mother. At the end of the video one knife even falls off the board and about skewered her.

@jens - that's a good idea!
Currently my soon 3y-old only use the Tojiro paring knife under supervision, and that works out pretty nice as well.
Also, in day-care here in Norway, children from abt 3 get to use sharp knives for whittling/wood-work. A day-care teacher I talked to said he always use sharp knives as make cleaner cuts, easier to heal etc.

@chefknivestogo - guess that's a wise decision to prevent any lawsuits etc.
