Just curious, I'm not familiar with natural stones. What are the differences when comparing to synthetic stones? I'm sure there are many, just trying to get an overall sense

Natural stones are actual stones that have a range of grits in the stone and the grits break down as you use the slurry or mud created. The mud polishes as it cuts and the mixed abrasive leaves a toothier edge. Manmade stones have a more closely graded grit structure and the manmade abrasives don't break down as much as the natural stones do.

And they will generally outlast synthetics many times over. And the mines are all being exhausted so they are becoming increasingly rare and will likely run out someday (Japanese naturals anyway). I have a few and I love them. Cannot wait to get more.

A Nakayama Iromono would be a nice addition to to your real nice collection for a high end polisher. In the mid range, a Tajima would be a nice addition.
