We have a massive amount of Edge Pro products so we figured it would be good to have a whole section on how to use the machine and what to use on it.

Improving my edge with strops.

Hi there, I'm Tom. I'm the proud owner of one of your finest knives you've ever sold on your forum, I bought the Konosuke Honyaki 240mm Wa-Gyuto last year.

I've babied it and cherished it, and now I want to be able to put a finer edge on it via stropping or honing. I just don't know where to start.

My finest stone on my Edge Pro kit stops at 6K. I'm looking for the best quality kit that would be appropriate for my Honyaki that I bought from you guys, as well a few of my other carbon steel French paring knives.

I like the idea of a stropping leather, some seem to suggest that the type of leather can give better results? As well 1 micron or sub micron diamond polishing liquid, both sound like interesting things.

I just don't know where to start, and don't want to waste money. This will all be for creating sharpness beyond what I'd need obviously for food prep. This would just be for sharpening- geek stuff, trying to make something as sharp as I could.

Thanks for any help you can provide. Ideally, I'd like to have as few parts to buy as possible, so perhaps some kind of small, well thought out kit?

Thanks again,

horse butt and 1 micron diamond spray work great here

I love horse butt as a strop substrate. It works well with sprays or even by itself.

If you wanted to try just that 1 strop that would be a good way to dip your toe in the water.

Tom, could you clarify if you are talking about the 6000 grit films from EdgePro or something more like a Japanese 6000 grit stone. These are considerably different.
