The harrowing part was the paper test at the end. Fortunately it glided through nice and easy. :)

I also got to try out one of the big grinding wheels in Takefu with Kurosaki-san (the elder brother) as my teacher. I have video proof!

Welcome back! I can't wait to see some of these videos. Will you make them informally available to us, or is the documentary project something that you'll keep close to your chest until it is "complete"? My girlfriend's mother was a professor of Japanese and spent lots of time there...and I'm slowly getting her into knives (as you can imagine, she's more interested in history, language, and literature). I bet she'd be really, really interested in your documentary project, though!

I'll publish the audio transcripts and then have them translated later. That way if someone is good with Japanese they can listen to the primary source.
