I see references to both a Kiyoshi Kato, and a Hiroshi Kato. Are they the same person? Perhaps just different ways to transliterate the same name?

That is my question as well.

Hmm, I found references to both names being born in 1944, so that makes it more likely they are the same person.

I'll tell you for sure when I meet him but I'm pretty sure he is the same blacksmith that makes the Masakage and Kanehiro brands. He's making these knives for multiple companies under different brand names and this is common with small blacksmith shops there that are independently run. Girinding and finishing work may or may not be done by his shop. I'll know a lot more soon.
