Good. That's the point of prison; to stew in sadness as you reflect upon your wrongdoing.

Sailor also wrote:"It is female only prison and they were there for the most part there in the room when i did the knives so needless to say I was out of my comfort zone. However, it really was quite interesting to hear the background chatter."

You can not possibly let that lie like that! :)

"Out of your comfort zone" how.?! Did you feel threatened, or was it their hungry stares... undressing you.. one eye at a time?

"Background chatter".?! Was it about the damage in which they'd like to inflict on you, or the aforementioned damage in which they'd like you to inflict upon them.?!

LOL good one Melampus.
My comfort zone is alone down in my sharpening room where I can zone in on my work, I rarely get a visitor except my wife when I get her to come down to check out how sharp a knife is for the 400th time and she pretends to be interested. I wasn't threatened, I had guard beside me the entire time which was in itself distracting.

Picture landing on a beach and you're the first man that the 10 beautiful women have seen in 2 years. This wasn't anything like that, these were man-haters, in fact, after a while I felt personally responsible for them being there.

The background chatter had a common theme, the government/police/authorities/men, screwed them over and placed them in the prison for no good reason.
Another reason why the Belt Sander wouldn't work is the noise, albeit just a little noise, the ladies were either watching TV, talking about their parole officers or just very very quiet. After a while even the noise of the knife moving over the stones became a irritating disruption to their solitude, I can't imagine what a belt sander would have done to them.

At same time, many of them managed to thank me for sharpening the knives.

Nice - just over 6 minutes per knife.

:)

Yes that's about right Rook but one of the knives was only 4" long, the others were 8". So once I got a system going I was able to knock off the little ones quickly, and spend a little more time on the longer ones. I'm used to spending 15-20 min on a knife but I worked quickly and didn't run into any issues, the burrs came very quickly so I got lucky there, all the same brand too and the lower end of the brand at that so the steel was soft and no match for the plate/stones.
The problems were:
1. The steel cable that was attached to the handles, very irritating to deal with
2. Fingers were so water logged that I couldn't feel for sharpness, at the midway point I was relying on sight, experience and a little bit of feeling
3. Fingertips were bleeding from improper finger placement on the little knive on the dmt plate.

Very impressive Peter given the volume of knives and working conditions. Good job.
