Going to Chicago

Tue Feb 18, 2014 4:13 pm

Hey guys,

I'm going to Chicago next week with my girlfriend for a short vacation. Anybody got any tips for cheapish eats in Chi-town? My girlfriend and I are in our early twenties so we don't have a butt-ton of money to blow.

Thanks for the help!

There's a million options. Any food in particular you like?

Try to visit China Town, its easy to get 2. Make shure you go into the plaza/ hall of restaurants and stores. Great food for a good price.

Cafe Iberico is also a good one great spanish tapas and red sangria.

Ramen misoya this one is 45 min from the city but they serve amazing ramen. The best i ever had.

It just depends on your mode of transportation.
Will you have access to a car?

I'm a cook by trade, so i like pretty much every food (except curry and coconut). My girlfriend is more reserved. An Italian Beef if definitely on the list, I've never had one even though ive been to Chicago a few times. I do have a car as we will be driving in from the Metro Detroit area

egonz> What side of the city is that ramen place on? My girlfriend loves Japanese cuisine so it would be a place worth checking out.

I got robbed in Chicago by someone pretending to pat cigarette ashes off of my pant legs......what a brutal day that was.

Besides that the place was awesome and I remember people telling us to have an beef sandwich.

(we couldn't afford it though :) )

have fun

If you like Mexican food Frontera has good food and it's not very expensive. Go early. It's always packed: http://www.rickbayless.com/restaurants/grill.html

The Purple Pig is really good and moderately priced. This place is hot and it's always packed but squeeze your way in there and you'll get some good eats: http://thepurplepigchicago.com/

Spiaggia is a great restaurant but it costs a fortune. Next door they run a very good "cafe" where you can have excellent pasta or pizza. We go once in a while for lunch. http://www.spiaggiarestaurant.com/cafe

I just saw an article about Chef Achatz fave restaurants & bars in Chicago. I've just been to Chicago once and not familiar with these restaurants he mentioned. Hope this help and have a great trip!
