There is a place on Michigan ave called billy goat tavern, it is the place where the the cubs world series curse comes from, plus they have good burgers. You get a little culture/history, good cheap food, and it is a fun environment.

Portillo's - Order two beef sandwiches, with both peppers and dipped. Oh gawd, my favorite!

If you have a car a stop to supedawg is a fun experience. Chicago dogs are an institution just like deep dish pizza. It's about 20 minutes from downtown (north) and the couple that owns it have been running the joint since the early 60s.

Is it permissible to mention (at this late date) that no one with any sense at all goes to Chicago for a vacation in the winter.

Spiaggia is terrific, if pricey.
If you're driving from Detroit, stop in Ann Arbor for Zingerman's.

Himself, I'm from michigan! its down right balmy right now! :D Country Club of Detroit(my employer) closes for the month of February so this is vacation time for me. Zingerman's is a must, i frequent A2 for medical so ive been around their food scene.

I really appreciate all the info you guys have given me, this trip is sure to be a hit with the lady.
