Glass blank vs aluminum blank for the polish tapes?

Excellent question but you have to know yourself to answer. On a scale of 1-10 how anal retentive and ocd are you? If the answer is below 5 get the aluminum blanks. :)

I recommend the EP-manufactured glass blanks. Not only are they perfectly flat but they have uniform thickness blank to blank, removing any need to adjust the EP once you are in your tape/film stage.

Once you go so fine the glass becomes a neccesity. So i just had all mine made in glass.

Glass is more precise. For coarser films and heavy duty films you can get away with aluminum backing. Fine films will give you problems since the surface is irregular so you are more likely to cut thin films. If you have heavy duty films AND light duty films, now you are at two different heights and need to adjust between them - PITA. So just go all glass. I have glass blanks in 1x6 and 2x6 as well as some other sizes for various sharpeners as well as full sized glass in 3x8 and 3x11".
