Thank you all.. For the advice and everything I learned the last few months on the forum.

I gave my friend on Friday for his birthday.

Goko Damascus 210 mm gyuto.
Shapton Pro 1500 wet stone
Idahone fine ceramic rod 12"

He loved it. He texted me Saturday. His text read

"Uh yeah dude. That knife is muther#%^*{ sharp! I just went through onions with zero resistance. When you get a chance could you send me info on that knife so I know what's it's made of and how to care for it. Thank you"

The best part is he wants to take care of it properly.
