Gift for my mother.

I can't wait to use the knife. Also do you have any suggestions for a nice 100 dollar knife for my mother for her birthday. She's a home cook. But I want do get her something with nice edge retention so she can go without sharpening for a while (since I'm her sharpener and I live in a different state). Santoku or Gyuto is fine with me. Thanks

Hi Dan,

I'll make some assumptions.

Right handed
Western handle
Under $100
Size 165-210mm
You will sharpen occasionally

The Richmond Artifex line is a good "mother" knife. A little thicker behind the edge, so a little more able to handle a more abusive user which I find most mothers to be. :) Gawd I hope my wife, mother, and mother-in-law never read that. :o

Plus, it's got a good steel so it's edge retention will be good, and they're in your price range.

If I guessed right on the details this knife is a good choice for her:

My santoku or gyuto would work for her as well:

I'd recommend the Hiromoto AS 190 Santoku, even if it is a little beyond your budget. But good cutter and nice edge retention.

Unfortunately, it's currently out of stock.
