Shapton glass 1000, Shapton glass 4000, a cork and Tony Miller's strop. If its an emergency at work I will separate a sheet of cardboard and use the wavy section to emergency hone. I really need a finishing stone for my knife bag. Next to buy 8000 gs and uchigomori for polishing.

If the blade needs thinning then I will start with a diamond plate 140 grit - 150 grit Bamboo - 1000 Ume - 5000 Bamboo - 8000 Shapton - then I put the cutting bevel or micro bevel on with the 16000 Shapton and then I hone gentle on the Shapton 16000 using it like a strop followed by a couple of drawing cuts through a cork then a couple of passes on a razor strop at a slightly lower angle so that I do not really touch the edge just the sides of the bevel

Suehiro 100 for flattening stones.
Suehiro 400, King 800, King 6000.

After soaking the stones for 10-15 min, I flatten them.

With each stone I start by forming a burr,
chasing the burr on the entire edge
than deburr using edge trailing stokes ( an moving laterally away form the stone) on the other side of the knife.

I do this on the other side, that move to a higher grit stone.

On the 6000 grit I just I finish with a flew edge trailing strokes.

Depend on the condition of the knife i use vintage double sided oil stone as my coarsest grit, then naniwa 1k, spyderco fine ceramic, naniwa 3k, to finish I use Lynn Melin Lynn slate stone with slurry, strop on henckels bob kramer strop :D this is not ideal setup, I would like to have better stones, but i am learning to use what i have and try get best out of it !

I have several stones and a few plates.. for thinning I have the extra coarse nubatama and dmt plates, for sharpening I begin with the 500 bester followed by the 800 amakusa or 1k chosera. Depending on the knife I will use my blue aoto or chosera 3k followed by my honyama or naniwa snow white and kitayama stones to finish. I love all my stones although I think I get faster results from my synthetics. I got addicted to sharpening and buying stones is the only way for me to experience the different results of each one. My girlfriend understandably hates me for having all these stones that I dont really "need"
