DAN <> Chromium & Molybednium are the elements blended into alloys to make them "stainless." The percentage varies, but to be traditionally considered "Stainless" the alloy must contain at least 11% chromium. The HD steel has 7% apparently, thus the SEMI distinction. Carbon content is what causes the reactivity which is why we call reactive blades, "carbons."

When I said, "dark as shiite" allow me to clarify I'm not talking black. I mean(t) a dark dull grey. As you already know - as Desol & Mark reminded you, it's a semi-stainless, but it will turn a dull grey.

Thanks for clearing that up. i threw the towel in today with the patina on this knife. Borrowed a colleagues carbon eraser and made the knife look brand new again! lol

That's a good point. The knife takes on a natural patina but its very light, almost the same color as the metal itself without the shininess. I was just trying to darken it with the mustard.
