I'm in the market for my first serious knife; I've narrowed the decision down to the Richmond Ultimatum and the Kanehiro Ginsan. I'm looking for a knife that can be my go to, and get beat up (just a little). I'm a home cook so it won't be getting excessive use, but I don't want to be worried about it. Easier to maintain/ take care of is better. I really like the look of the Kanehiro, I think it's a beautiful knife but is it worth the extra $60? Also I'm a lefty if that makes any difference.

The big difference between the blades is the Kanehiro is tall and my knife is short. I actually prefer a taller knife with lots of knuckle clearence. Also the Kanehiros are hand made and I like that too. Get that one.

I took the plunge, thanks for the recommendation. Is its bevel 50/50?
