I got out of work this morning and had tonight off, so I went out to the shed and made some dust!

Tojiro Western Deba with Arizona Ironwood:

Western Deba next to a thinned and rehandled Artifex. Blue Maple Burl, but it's kinda light, hopefully it will darken once I get the oil finish on it!

2 Kikuichi's. 240mm Carbon with Flamed Redwood, 210mm Warikomi Damascus with Redwood Burl:

Masamoto VG-10 Western 240mm gyuto converted to a Wa handle, Black Dymondwood with Yellow G10 spacer. It is an Octagon Wa with the bottom 3 bevels rounded out so it feels like an oval on the bottom. Very comfy! On top is a Black PakkaWood/Rosewood Octagon Wa handle for a 270mm SS Tanaka. These were pretty much done before, but I had to install the Wa on the Masa and clean up both handles a bit.

So far today.

Wait till you see the next pics!! I know Aaron (AKA Lefty Speedy) is waiting on the next pics!!!

Lol Tim has shown me some tease picture of all of the components. Think we both agree this will be one handle to top. Can't wait to see them.

Aaron and I have been talking about an Octagon Wa handle for his BIG BOY, 360mm Lefty Yanagiba. We were looking for red materials and something different than what we had seen before. We settled on some M3 composites and I got some Redwood for him to choose from. Well, the M3 took a while to arrive because of a saw blade issue at the supplier, but I got the M3 material in this morning. I took some pics of the different woods and M3 materials and sent them to Aaron. Well, I got the Go Ahead and final choices from Aaron at around 530pm. Red/Black Lava M3 ferrule, Silver Mokume Spacer, Dark Redwood Burl and Silver Mokume End Cap with Mosaic pin. So I glued it all up and clamped it and put it next to the wood stove, which was nice and warm, which helped the epoxy cure faster.

Pic once I got it out of the clamp and next to the original handle:

Sides cleaned and squared up. I love the 12" disc sander!!

Next to the orig handle. We wanted to match the tapers and overall shape/width/height, but a little bit longer to help balance the longer blade.

Bevels roughed in:

Working on fitting the handle to the tang:

Almost there!

Handle on the blade, next to the original handle:

I use a 60 grit disc on the sander, so I gotta do some hand sanding on a granite reference plate and cork block. Here it is after the 220 grit step. I go 100, 220, 320, 400, 600, 1500 and buff usually.

1500 grit step:

Buffed and wiped down with some Tung Oil:

Hard to get good pics inside, I will get some better ones tomorrow morning!

That is where she is as of 9pm tonight! Around 3.5 hours of work :)
