Thanks to all the great advice I got here, I've decided to
get a Kono HD 270mm gyuto. I'm now deciding between the original profile (currently sold out) and the funayuki ("new shape"). I've trolled the internet and there doesn't seem to be a lot of info on the performance of the funayuki. Anyone have any feedback they could share? If you've tried both profiles, I'd be especially interested to hear what you have to say.
Yes, I push cut.

I can't honestly say that I have a "serious" desire to use one profile or the other (that sort of standard gyuto profile and that of a funayuki profile). I have both profiles and I use both profiles on a regular basis.
The funayuki profiles are lighter (less metal, so obviously) and not as wide. The tips are often more delicate as well.
The profile on the wider knives allows for more scooping ability and I often feel like I have more of a firm grip on them for some reason.
Ehhh, I don't have strong opinions one over the other.

Just busy ITK, brother. Whenever I'm in my office, I stop in here for a sec.
It's no 300mm, but it's a big knife. Mine weighs in at 182 grams (6.4 oz), as well. They are hand made; they will vary.
Here it is in relation to a Suisin Honyaki 240mm.
