As a relative noob with the EP, I still have a few knives with seriously abused edges. These are so bad that the EP 120 would take forever to shape.

What is the most aggressive EP stone for the first fast edge shaping on these blunts edge knives?

Thanks,
Allen

If you need something coarser than the 120 EP stone you may want to look into some abrasive files of something. Sounds like the edges may have been used to chop rocks or something. The 120 is pretty aggressive. There are other type stones you can try though. There are lots of possibilities on the CKTG site that I haven't tried. I'm sure others may have suggestions. Do you have just the EP stones or did you get your EP here with one of the optional stone setups?

You could try flattening your 120 stone. Sometimes stones get clogged and don't cut as well or fast as they should.

Get an Atoma 140 plate for the Edge Pro:

"Sounds like the edges may have been used to chop rocks or something. "

That's not too far from the truth. We have granite counter tops and I've caught my sons cutting on them without a cutting board. Yeah, it make me cringe too. :(

I keep the 120 flat and it isn't too bad. I was hoping for a suggestion like Rick's. Thanks Rick!

Thanks for the responses,
Allen

The 120 EP stone is very slow. Get a DMT or Atoma plate. it'll set things straight very fast!
