How is this different from the HD2?

HH is stainless, HD2 is semi-stainless. Other than that, pretty much identical.

For years, my primary gyuto was a Kono HD I've been interested in a Kono suji. My post count is way too low, so no-go.

LOL, yeah. Ultimate to me is subjective and it doesn't have to cost a lot. I should've kept the Kanamasa with your handle. Great profile, unexceptional steel, but it was a good slicer. I had a Kono white #2 that was very good but 300 was too long. Eventually I'll find one. In the mean time the hunt is fun.

For now I'm using an old 240 carbon Sabatier and a 270 Gerber Balance Plus from the 1980's. They both do fine.

I was figuring I would get a Misono when the time came. Couldn't pass this price up. I'll eat ramen at the house for a month to get this HH paid off.
I hope I don't find the 300 too long but I'm guessing it will be about right. Now to sell my victornox scimitar!

I've been wondering about the length. Do the sujihiki run as undersized as other Konosuke knives?

Yes, the Kono sujis often run undersized. I have a white #2 300mm suji and its not a lot longer than the 270mm. I like the longer suji's anyway!
