We have a massive amount of Edge Pro products so we figured it would be good to have a whole section on how to use the machine and what to use on it.

Edge Pro Glass Stones Availability?

Wed Sep 12, 2012 4:18 pm

Hi Mark,

I just curious if you are going to bring in more Shapton Glass stone for Edge Pro? If you are going to, what is the expected time? Will the stones be offered in a set?

I have been thinking about getting an Edge Pro for awhile, but have put it off to wait for the Shapton Glass stones. I just want to know the wait is not for naught.

Sorry for my impatience. thanks!

Take Care,

Jay

Hi Jay,

Shapton air mailed them to me last Friday so I should be getting them sometime in the next week.

We do offer a pre made set here:

I am glad for this thread. I have the 2k and 6k Shapton glass stones and have been debating on which coarser grit or grits to get. Since in your infinite wisdom you have included the 320 and 500 grits I'll get those two when I do. I'm thinking about a Christmas present.

I reprofiled a knife with 3Cr13MoV blade this evening using only the 2k stone. It ate the steel away fast. I took it from 40 deg incl. to 30 deg in about 20 - 30 minutes. The entire process was a combination of reprofiling, sharpening and polishing the bevel all with one stone. The lower grit stones shouldn't ever be needed except for the far better and harder steels based on the littleexperience I've had with the 2k and 6k stones. I may change my mind later but it looks like someone may be able to get away with owning only a 2k Shapton glass stone if all he/she does is keep a knife sharp once the edge is profiled. I didn't think I'd ever see a type of stone that would cut this fast and still be leaving a very nice finish instead of a very scratchy bevel. I can't wait to see the toothyness of the coarser stones when I get them.

Hi Mark,

2 questions.
Are they here yet?

Also do you have a stone only set available for the Edge pro? Or do we have to buy them individually if you already have a edge pro?

The Shpaton Glass Stones are back in stock. I bought a 1K, 2K, 4K, 8K, and 16K with an Atoma 140. :)
