DMT Diaflat Question

Tue Mar 05, 2013 5:10 pm

Hi. I ordered the DMT XXC yesterday, and today saw the item #00742 4"x10" with the following description:

Each Dia Flat Lapping Plate is hand certified for flatness less than .0005” across its surface and can replace any surface used for flattening other abrasive stones, according to DMT Technical Director Stan Watson. “Our Diamond Hardcoat Technology will outlast any other diamond coated lapping plate on the market. It’s also 50 percent larger than other lapping plates; and unlike other diamond lapping plates there are no restrictions on how coarse a stone it can be used on.”

Is the regular XXC the same plate except smaller, or is the larger one a different construction? I was thinking of switching out if the XXC regular didn't have the same features.

Thanks.

“Our Diamond Hardcoat Technology will outlast any other diamond coated lapping plate on the market."

At $200 it better.

I just want to stop my thumbs from bleeding all over the round glass plate. Plus, I've got cuts on both hands, but it's a learning experience...finding out what the definition of sharp is.
I've held a grudge over my old boy scout master for 55 years flunking me on sharpening. He is forgiven. He was correct.
