MR. LEWIS <> IIRC Doi-san is already retired, and all knives are backstock. A necessary evil of Kata-ha construction anyhow so as to allow hagane & jigane settle.
There are a myriad of smiths practicing in the traditional ways of Japanese knife making, making knives all their lives, and by hand forging.
