I just watched this Murray Carter Vid.
I will like to try his way of making convex egde, but I see that he hold the knife almost 90 deg relative to the stone. I myself tend to keep the stone more like 45 degree relative to the stone. Is that a bad way to hold the knife when doing this rocking motion?

Let us know how it works out. I usually don't try and convex my edges but as Murray points out if you free hand it's inevitable.

Murrey never flattens his stones and freehands. So he'll always have a convex edge.

Nearly all hand sharpened edges are somewhat convex. The human hand just isn't that steady.
You can do what Murray is doing with the knife at a 45 and not 90. p.s. Michiel....that's hilarious.

I'm just happy when they're sharp when I'm finished.....much less TRYING to convex the cutting edge.

Haha, +1 for Jeff.
