Can you tell me the difference between the Kohetsu Blue #2 and the goko damascus? They are the same price.

The Goko has a beautiful blade and an ass ugly wa handle (not that bad really, I'm going for laughs). Nice stainless steel too.
The Kohetsu has excellent carbon steel that I really love (blue paper #2) with great heat treatment, stainless clad and ass ugly western handle.
For the price these are among the best values on the site. The gokos are almost all gone and I won't be getting more at this price. There is a chance I can get them at about 50% higher retail price later but I've not discussed it with them yet. If I do I'll most likely put our own semi custom handles on them and sell them for double the current retail price.

As to the OP, Mark/CKTG's comments are dead on. The knives are miles apart other than price point - wa vs. yo (western) handles. Carbon vs. SS. Satin finish vs. damasscus. Really depends on what it is gonna be used for, and by whom. Carbon needs to be wiped down after use. You can be a bit more lazy with the goko. Carbon is likely to get a sharper and might hold the edge a longer, but the SS is likely more forgiving (i.e. less prone to chipping). I find that my carbon blades are easier to sharpen than my SS blades (don't take quite as long).
All things considered, I think the Goko is a better "deal" at that price point, FWIM. And it is much easier to change a wa handle than a yo handle.

I dunno....MY Kohetsu has a sweet handle! And it was easy to rehandle :p
Kohetsu looks cool when etched/patina. Western handle feels pretty good on the Kohetsu, just fill in the gap between the handle and tang with some JB Kwik Weld and you are good to go. Kohetsu starts the plunge cut under where the scales start, so there is a tiny gap there. Stock Western Kohetsu handle feels nicer than the Stock Goko handle. OOTB edge and cutting performance go to the Kohetsu.

I think a lot of this is preference. I own the Kohetsu AS 240mm and the Goko Damascus and while I hate western handles, I love my Kohetsu and I love my other knives in Blue #2. Between these two, I think I might get the Kohetsu.

All kidding aside, I'd pick by blade. Do you want SS or carbon?

For my money I'd go with the Kohetsu, it's going to sharpen better and hold an edge longer, a very good cutter. And Mark is right, the Goko handle is ass ugly!
