:( My chosera 5k stone has a crack running right down the middle of it and I have no idea what happened. I have not used a lot of pressure on any of my chosera stones. I sharpened a knife and after I was done I let it sit out to dry like I always do, after it was dry I looked at it and noticed a crack running down the middle of it  , so I went to do something else and when I came back, the crack was worse. Anybody have any Ideas of what happened?

Huh that is odd... I wonder why? I haven't dropped mine either and I have probably only really sharpened with it 25-30 times...

Because the Naniwa Chocera stones are a Magnesia based substrates, they are more sensitive than other non-magnesia based stones to rapid temp changes, drying out quickly especially in sunlight and should be gently dried and NOT soaked for any long period of time. Their magnesia based stone formulation also is responsible for that really nice Naniwa smooth feel, so there's pluses and minuses. That being said I have never had the problem with my Chocera stones although this is reported with Chocera stones and other magnesia based stone formulations.

What I would do with a stone starting to crack is to seal the stone and mount it to a base - glass or wood. for instance. This is something that I do with some natural stones that are delicate and with very expensive stones as a preventative step. Let me know if you need some help doing this as it is a bit of an art to do well. It should help but is not a guarantee.

Top Notch, I remember this more than the great products. You don't run across this everyday.
