yes there is a cheaper alternative,

theres the tojiro shirogami 240mm mioroshi deba http://www.chefknivestogo.com/toshmide21.html

Buut if you are looking for a 270mm, theres the monzaburo http://yhst-27988581933240.stores.yahoo.net/monzaburo-mioroshi-deba-270mm-white-steel-blade-kn270.html

Also there is a really good deal on a BNIB konosuke 240mm mioroshi deba in the classifieds :D

Now I'm just saying, that's going to be a BIG ASS knife. It's still a deba, and at 270mm it's going to be heavy. :)

What are you doing with the knife?

The Tojiro Western Deba is good for heavier work.

The traditional kiritsukes on the site are somewhat similar for finer work. I like the 270mm Doi very much.
