CBN - Stropping and Tooth

Wed May 08, 2013 11:35 pm

Hi Guys,

I wanted to try some of the CBN spray on a balsa strop and was hoping to get some input on which one given my needs.

The knives are White #1 and AS steel.
The use is for chopping veg and slicing meat.

Currently I have the following stones.

King 1K
Bestor 1.2k
Rika 5K
King 6K
Arashiyama 6k

Given your choice of one of the mid stones and one of the high grit stones, which CBN spray would you use on the strop?

Many thanks.

Arashiyama -> deburr -> 1u CBN -> deburr -> A few strokes with 0.5 u CBN; careful not to draw a burr.

1 micron if only getting one.

Perfectly reasonable answer. 6k is about 3 microns so 1 micron (16k) - a 3x jump - is reasonable and going to 0.5 micron (32k) - a 2x jump - is also reasonable. For an even finer edge going to 0.125 micron (4x jump) will give you an absolutely superb edge. I highly recommend Kangaroo leather for your final stropping compound.
