Build along with some W2 Petty blades

Wed Aug 07, 2013 1:35 pm

Thought you all might like some pictures building some 190mm petty blades.

These are from 3/4" Round Bar. (and of course my Hydraulic press is broke.... so all hand forged)

Getting some heat on the bar

First I work it down to a roughly 1 x 1/4" bar

Start to forge in the tip and begin drawing it thinner

Cut off of the parent bar and start the tang

Rough forged I actually forge the edge length to around 200mm so I can trim and clean up

next we forge in bevels (pictures tomorrow)

Love the anvil. How much does that thing weigh?

And that is a lot of metal to move by hand - how long did it take you to get to this stage? Awesome stuff!

Don,

that's a 200LB Billet SeaRobin Forge anvil
stand and all it's around 250Lb

it takes me about 45 minutes to forge a blade like this but I swing a 4.5Lb hammer in a manner oft described as "ridiculous"
