It looks like those that have either love what they have. It appears that the Gold might be a little harder and maybe more aggressive, both traits I'm looking for. I doubt there is a bad choice here but I'm going to try the 1k Gold. Thanks guys!

I have had the chance to test out a few of these wonderful 1k Nubatama stones and though I have about worn my 1k gold down to a thin wafer and have much love for it, the Ume 1k wins hands down.

I am currently very fond of the double hard Ume 1k for its speed and resistance to wear, and its such a beautiful you almost just want to use it for that reason alone.

So if you are wondering which 1k Nubatama to get I can't help but to say Ume.

@Jason B. - What would you recommend for an intermediate stone between the Ume #1K and a #6-8K stone like an Arashiyama #6K? Have you had an opportunity to try the N.Bamboo #3k?

Thanks

No, but I have the 2k and 1200 bamboo. The 2k and 3k are similar stones though and if you have the coin for one its a stone worth having. They are very fast cutting for the grit rating and would be good to be followed by natural stones. Personally I find the 2k to just be slightly finer than the 1k so I would imagine the 3k would be a better choice when progressing to a higher grit.

The 1200 is completely different, its soft, really muddy, and will remind you of a natural Aoto in cutting speed. Does best on single bevels though.

Until we see some more options in the mid range of the Nubatama line I would probably recommend the Naniwa 2k green brick.

Do you mean the Naniwa #2K GB as opposed to the N.Bamboo #3K?
Is the GB noticeably a step up from the Ume #1K (I'm assuming you're referring to the XH #1K here, not the H or medium version)?

Thanks.
