How would you compare the Atoma 140 to the DMT 10x4? How important is the DMT claim that the plate is flat to within .005 inch? How important is the larger size of the DMT? How important is the DMT “Hard Coat Technology? My sense is that the forum discussions have compared the Atoma 140 to the DMT 8in Diasharp and not to the newer DMT 10x4 lapping plate? Do you agree with the recent post at the Cntg Forum by jmbullman about the DMT Diasharp losing its diamonds to the flattened stone?

The Atoma is faster, is way better for sharpening and has a nicer finish.
I've used the lapping plate and it's really nice for big stones and if you lap a lot of stones. For most users a smaller plate like the Atoma would do just fine. No idea about the hard coat technology.

Yes what Mike said.
The Atomas are a little better for work with steel. The DMTs are good for flattening. Yes I've had an occasional bit of diamond particles come of the plate as I flatten the stone but you can feel it right away and a simple rinse of the stone takes care of it.
