Are these stones any good?

Wed Aug 29, 2012 4:18 pm

Mark am I making a mistake to order this bester, beston, rika set for my entry level knives: Artifex, Tojiro, Mac, CCK small ?

I'd rather spend more $$ for better stones if that money is justified.
I have a long history sharpening woodworking tools so not a newbie.

The stones will work great for just about anything you have. They're really good. Give them some time to soak and keep them flat and you're good to go.

Final question then I'll absorb your tutorial videos:
If I run them under a faucet drip do I need to soak or can I do an abreviated soak?

Thanks

I use my sink bridge and dribble water on them to save from soaking. You can do it this way and avoid soaking if you want.

Soaking is important to the stone and if not done properly the stone may not perform as it should. It's not a difficult process, plug the sing or use a plastic tub for soaking the stones. Let them soak for about a hour before first use and have at it. Keep them in water if used regularly or let them dry out of sunlight and store on a rack. Running water on the stone while sharpening should not be done either.
