Any suggestions besides stones for sharpening?

I want to purchase some tojiro DP knives for my daughter. After lots of research I understand that a wet stone is the best way to sharpen these knives; however, I do not believe that to be an option for my daughter, so what would be the next best way to sharpen these types of knives. Would the spyderco sharpener or chefs pro manual sharpener be appropriate? Or can you suggest another sharpener and why?

Hi Deanne,

This is what I gave my father since I knew he had no interest in learning to sharpen either by hand or with an edge pro. It's quick and easy to use and works pretty well. It will work well on Tojiros and it's better than the one they offer.

Otherwise, the Global Minosharp Mark linked to is okay....as is the Spyderco Sharpmaker. Both have serious limitations, but will at least work.

DEANNE <> As your research proved, the whetstone is how you truly sharpen a knife... everything else is a joke.

I am assuming your refrain from whetstones for your daughter is due to their freehand usage. If my guess is accurate, the Edge Pro <link> solves your issue; whetstones on a jig that a teenager can operate with professional results.
