Hello, I'm trying to choose a Petty. Has anyone tried one or more of these? Any comparisons? How about some specifics like release on food and profiles? Is the height good, or is it too tall or short?
I would prefer to stick with AS, I don't care if it's clad or not. Are there any positive or negative thoughts on cladding?

I don't know of an AS knife that isn't clad.
I've used only the Takeda petty...so not much in the way of specific comparisons.

I thought the Takeda was Kuro-Uchi, and not clad per se. Just for my information is Kuro-Uchi considered a cladding?
What are your thoughts regarding the Takeda?

KU is an "as forged" finish, so it's purely a visual thing really. It doesn't mean it's clad or not clad.
However, nearly all KU knives are clad....in fact I don't know of one that isn't.
I love Takeda's knives and his petty's are very nice. Very thin at and behind the edge. Nice profile (typically....they're handmade so some variance is to be expected) and nice handles.

Look at this, I'm already being educated. Thanks for the input.

I got the Masakage Koishi 150mm and haven't regretted it a bit. Good height, great profile, nice balance and handling, excellent fit and finish, and takes a killer edge. I can't compare it to anything else, though - except maybe an Apache gunship.

FWIW, I thought kuro-uchi was a carbon deposit that was left on the blade, so thanks for the clarification and the input.
I ordered the Takeda Classic Petit 150mm and I can hardly wait for it to arrive.
