It looks like this design needs to be improved upon a bit. The rods need to be solid and not move or need JB weld. I like the idea that you can essentially use the pistol grip and get the feeling of freehand while using a guide that's a cool design feature.

Actually the KME system is affected by stone thickness. Please see Dean's video starting at 15:28 seconds for explanation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfY9kQwyQLc

Umberto if you were to put the rod in the stone holder all the time it would take up to much room in the case, the reason I used JB Weld was because that's all I had at the time.

I don't think having to ad a bit of Red Locktite or JB Weld is that big of a deal,I would rather have to put a wrench on a nut that has been Red Locktited in place before I would have the rod in the stone holder and never be able to move. Also when something screws in it's going to loosen over time.

I would leave my rod in the stone holder all the time but my problem is that I do not have a place to leave mine set up all the time or else I would, but even still it does not bother me to screw the rod in it only takes 5 seconds.

Tall Dark and Swarfy if you really want to get one ask Mark Richmond to let you know if he is going to carry it after he's done playing with his test unit or just google KME Sharpener and you'll find it right away.

If you have a knife that is 10 inch's long just put the knife in the jaws on an angle an it will reach both ends just fine, the KME will do a knife up to 8 inchs just fine and still have lot's of rod left,I have a 8 inch knife and that's the longest I have.
...

Angling the knife in the jaws would cause the knife edge's angle to vary over the length of the knife.

This is what I would be worried about.
Which is why for my jigs I prefer the Edge Pro, yes I have to hold move the knife, but I can keep the stone in the same spot if I choose to and move the knife.
