An easy one from Aaron!

Tue Sep 17, 2013 12:12 am

Well, I got a box from Aaron, inside was a nice honey horn/ebony handle Kono. I was looking it over and told Aaron I liked the handle and asked what I was supposed to do with it! LOL. I had forgotten that he was sending it to me for a thinning. Well, that's an easy one!! So I took his Boy Blue to the KMG belt sander and let metal fly!! I wish I had taken a before pic of the choil, but Aaron had used it for way too long (over a year) and it needed a good thinning. As I was working the blade, I saw that it looked like it had some hollow ground parts on the blade, so I had to flat grind most of those out, then convex the sides. I got most of them out on the left side, but the right side had some deeper ones near the edge and it was already getting thin! One of his coworkers borrowed it and popped a few mm off of the tip, so I gotta tune the tip up once I get it thinned out and stuff and sharpen it.

Went up with the belts and then a cork belt with buffing compound...shiny now! Yes, that's me in the reflection taking the picture!

Now for a choil shot :)

That edge looks silly thin... :P like fragile thin.

Looks beautiful behind the edge.

I still have to sharpen it, so it will get a little thicker. The pic is also taken at an angle, so some of that is the edge going down the blade where it is almost too thin.
