I'm shopping for 240's, but for a knife like that I'm sure I'd be happy with a 210.
Rail, Rail, Rail,
Are you looking for a tool or a collectible? If you want a tool, 210mm is okay for someone who mostly rock-chops; maybe. But at 210mm an ordinary gytuo profile has too high a proportion of belly to flat for a push-cutter or glider. A 240 would be much better.

Boar: Feh ... yer just trying to shoo off the top bidder so you can nab it yerself. Won't work, bucko.

No worries. No place in my kit for it, every conceivable niche is filled at least twice by knives I like; it's san-mai; it's too short; and it's got too much in the way of cosmetics. If there's one thing I neither need nor want it's an 8" san-mai gyuto with a dressy handle.

I was just razzin ya.
It *is* kinda loud (like that too-loud tie in ones closet that doesnt match anything but still gets worn in stubborn defianct of rules of good taste), and I haven't forgotten the tip about the reduced feedback of clad knives ... but the price and timing are there so what the hey. It still leaves enuf budget for another steal.

I showed my daughter the pictures from taz and she liked it, very much, so we're buying. I'm excited. Thanks to all that contributed advice and knowledge, even the guy named BDL.

I hope you're aware the peanut gallery's comment had absolutely no validity.
And Boar was the only one who wished you a Happy Father's Day...
Enjoy the Kanetsune! Don't forget to come back, and tell us how much you love her!
Happy Father's Day!

Hey. The guy named BDL recommended the Kanetsune as one of the two top choices available to Michael to replace his stolen go to. Just because it's not my taste doesn't mean it's not a great knife for somebody. The other knife I recommended, the Tojiro DP, is not to my taste either.
Happy Father's Day,
